What to Expect During Your Introductory Private Nervous System Lesson

Length: Approximately 75–90 minutes

Your first lesson is all about getting to know you. Not just your goals, but how your unique nervous system experiences the world. There is no pressure to "perform," share anything you're not ready to discuss, or get everything right. This is a gentle, collaborative learning experience designed to help you better understand yourself.

Welcome & Conversation

We'll begin by talking about what brought you here. Together we'll explore questions like:

  • What has been feeling most challenging lately?
  • What are you hoping to learn?
  • What situations leave you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected?
  • What helps you feel calm, safe, or energized?

This conversation helps us tailor the lesson to your needs.

Learning Your Nervous System

Next, we'll begin building a simple understanding of how your nervous system works. We'll talk about topics such as:

  • Why your body responds to stress the way it does
  • The different stress responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn, and rest & restore)
  • How your thoughts, emotions, and body work together
  • How to recognize your own early signs of stress

My goal is to make neuroscience practical, approachable, and easy to understand.

Gentle Movement & Body Awareness

We'll explore gentle movement practices that help you reconnect with your body. Depending on your comfort level and needs, this may include:

  • Stretching
  • Gentle mobility exercises
  • Body awareness practices
  • Myofascial release using a foam roller or massage ball (if available)
  • Grounding through movement
  • Breath and posture awareness

Everything is adaptable to your body and physical abilities. You're always encouraged to move at a pace that feels supportive for you.

Mindfulness Practice

Together we'll practice simple mindfulness skills that you can use long after our lesson ends. Rather than trying to "empty your mind," you'll learn how to observe your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations with greater curiosity and compassion. These are practical skills designed for everyday life.

A Haunted Mindfulness Story

Each lesson includes a short story or metaphor inspired by the Haunted Mindfulness approach. Stories help us understand complex emotional experiences in ways that are memorable, meaningful, and often a little magical.

Guided Meditation

We'll finish with a personalized guided meditation that brings together everything we've explored during our lesson. This is your opportunity to experience the concepts in practice, not just understand them intellectually.

Your Field Guide

Before we finish, we'll reflect on what you discovered. Together we'll identify:

  • What your body communicated today
  • What helped you feel more regulated or connected
  • Which practices felt most supportive
  • One or two simple skills to practice before our next lesson
